Place two glasses or mason jars in the freezer.Place the blackberries in a jar or pitcher. Using a muddler or the bottom of a wooden spoon, smash the blackberries until they are mostly broken down, but a few pieces still remain. Add the bourbon, fresh lemon juice, simply syrup, mint, lemon zest and cardamom and stir well.Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and pour in about half of the drink mixture. Shake well. Fill the chilled glasses or mason jars with ice. Strain the shaken mixture into one of the prepared mason jars and repeat with the remaining drink mixture. Garnish with additional lemon slices, blackberries and mint.Cassie's Notes:To make the simple syrup - combine 1/4 cup sugar and 1/4 cup water. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 6 minutes, until reduced by half. I tried this recipe with simple syrup made with both granulated sugar and brown sugar and I preferred the molasses flavor of the brown sugar with the bourbon for this recipe.
